Cover

The cover picture comes from a 1957 promotion postcard from the oil company Esso. Swedish Esso was founded in 1896 under the name "Krooks Petroleum and oil Ltd" and is the oldest oil company in Sweden. The company was created by merging the two oil compines Krook, Ahlberg & Co and Falkman, Möller & Co. In 1934 the name was changed to Swedish petroleum Standard Ltd. In 1951 the name was changed again, now to Swedish Esso Ltd.
1985 the company was bought by Statoil of Norway and the name changed to Statoil Ltd. Consequently all petrol stations changed name to Statoil too.

Östermalmstorg, Stockholm, 1956. Two of the car deales in the city have parked their test drive cars on the square. To the left a Borgward Isabella, or more correctly Borgward Hansa 1500 from 1955, owned by Wulf & Co on Sveavägen 105.

The hall was built in 1888 and the construction took only six months. It was very modern for its time. It had its own steam driven electricity plant, ventilation with cooling in the summer and heating in the winter and also its own well with a pumping system to supply fresh water to the live fish that was held in basins.

March
The true mother of all Duetts. This one has a body built on a PV445 chassis in Linköping by AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna and it has only the digit 1 on the chassis number plate. The year model is 1948 and the model designation is PV445A,
Not until 1953 Volvos own estate body was introduced, the Duett.
Volvo owned the car on the picture until 1958 when it was sold to the Gothenburg church to be used in its aid work. Behind all collected items is Sven Karlsson.
The day before new years eve 1961 it was reported scrapped in Sävedalen outside Gothenburg.

The pride of the new car cannot be mistaken. Also Margit, his wife, looks happy for the new car. Photo unknown.
