Volvo PV 445

After the success with the PV444 the demand for a separate chassis to build estate wagons on grew. It was introduced in 1949 and it came to stay for almost 20 years.
The first four years Volvo only made a separate chassis with front and dashboard and they let smaller firms, for example Valbo, Ringborgs and Grip build the rest of the body.

In 1953 the PV445 Duett was intruduced . Different from the cars built by the smaller firms the Volvo-built Duett had an all-steel body which of course made it much more durable. From 1953 Volvo built the PV445 in four versions: separate chassis, Delivery Van, Estate Wagon and Personal Estate Wagon (the Estate Wagon was registered in Sweden as a truck).
The Duett became a very popular car, both as a firm- and as a personal-car. It was Du-ett (two-one), two cars in one. Uncountable are the stories about Duetts that refused to die and you can still see Duetts doing their daily work in small firms.
The PV445 was made until July 1960.
