Kalmar airport in the middle of the 1950:s. Afternoon papers are being offloaded from a Transair DC3 built in 1937.

Haulage contractor Elving Engström from Västervik is ready to start with his 1953 PV445B with body from Grantorpet Coach factory in Västervik. To the left two Opel Blitz light trucks.

 

January
Left-handed Anders Jonsson from Gävleborg county is cleaning the windows of his PV544D 1962/63 on the parking lot at Edsberg, Sollentuna. Behind the Volvo is music teacher Ingrid Tronder´s Opel Rekord P2 from 1961. Behind the Opel a VW 1500 1966.

 

February
Vasagatan, Stockholm, by the central station. This is a dream picture for the car enthusiasts. The little red bus is a Borgward B611 used by the swedish rock star Little Gerhard. This was his tour bus for his rock n´roll tours 1962 – 1965. This time the bus is waiting for the Sten & Stanley orchestra to arrive from Karlskoga.

Other cars in the picture includes a PV444KS 1956, Mercedes Benz 180, Opel Blitz.

 

March
The telegram boy and his car – a 1954 PV444H by the Royal Caslte in Stockholm. Behind is the National Museum.

On the street below, the Skeppsbron, is a Packard Clipper hurrying by along with a Renault 4 CV

 

April

"Already at the Volvo factory the car was received by an inspector from the Televerket (the Swedish Telephone authority) who shall ensure that the car meets the specifications set up in the agreement with Volvo AB."

From the Televerket staff magazine Verket & Vi # 9 1964.

The story with the headline "A TELE-car is born" shows how Volvo builds the car and how the Televerket workshopin Gothenburg installed the interior, roofrack och the very Tele-typical right side window.

Seen on the picture is senior mechanic Arne Pettersson together with a Volvo mechanic checking that everything is correct.

 

 

May
Postiljonvägen in Svedmyra, southern Stockholm with Opel Rekort P1 1959, lots of Volvo cars and a Crescent 2000 moped.

The house on the Postiljonvägen was built in 1948 and had several shops on the ground floor. Besides the Konsum grocery store the was a bakers shop, milk shop, meat shop, tobacco store , a cobbler´s and a furniture store. None of the stores remain today byt the funny little house to the left still stands and a belongs the Postiljonen  old peoples home. 

 

June

A Televerket repair car on the ferry to Resarö north of Stockholm for a repair mission. The car is a PV444T 1947. T stands for Telegrafverket version. It was registered as at truck and had no back seat.

The ferry was built at the Brandholmen shipsyard in Nyköping 1933 and was replaced by a road to the southern part of the Resarö island in 1962.

 

July

Rally  for ladies arranged in the spring 1953 by the Swedish magazine Vecko-Journalen and SMK, Svenska Motorklubben.

The PV444 DS 1953 was owned by Volvo dealer Nils Arfwidson AB in Södertälje and used by managing director Åke Östling. It was probably his wife Ida who drove the car.

Behind the PV is the winner, countess Ylva Bonde with her six cylinder Citroen B15 1951

 

August

1950:s postcard from Kinna in western Sweden showing new blocks of flats.

The cars are PV444B 1959 and VW 1950

 

September

Four of many Duetts owned by the Swedish Post authority shortly before Sweden changed to righthand side driving on September 3 1977. The headlights have protective tape to prevent from blinding when using right assymetric headlights when still driving to the left.

 

October

The recidense of the county governor in Nyköping. The building is  a the main square. From the right Ford Taunus 15M 1955, Ford Taunus 12M 1953, Volksvagen, Peugeot 203, PV444KS 1956, Austin A50 Camebridge and a SAAB 93.

 

November

Georg Westling in Timrå north of Sundsvall is the owner of this 1953 Duett .

The car remained in the sundsvall area until it was scrapped in September 1964

 

December

Two vehicles belonging the swedish telephone company Televerket. The truck has a 3,6 litre V8.
The lille house is a phone station, the type was called A2.
