Benefit for the members.
Thank you, all members for the big confidence you have given me. I
have been a member of the PV-klubben since the autumn of 1977,
when I fixed up my PV 444 D. I have also been active in the club work
in different periods since 1981. Despite this I was uncertain if I had
enough capacity when I was asked if I could take over the
chairmanship after Erik Gustavsson. I would have very much liked to
see Erik continue as chairman for another period, but at the same
time I know that he is at the point in his life when the family and the
career takes all the time there is.
As you can see from the annual report of club activities the
co-operation with other Volvo clubs is back on track thanks to Erik's
initiative. It will be easy for me to continue on the same trail and I also
hope we will be able to intensify the contacts with the foreign Volvo
clubs too.
Erik's involvement with the environment has caused other board
members to sigh now and then, but that is yet another field where we
now can see the result of Erik's efforts. The lead substitute will
disappear from the petrol pumps and we can only congratulate those
members who already have converted their cylinder heads when they
restored their engines.
The PV-klubben is a big organisation that is offensive in the
environment area. We can influence the development in co-operation
with for example MHRF (The Swedish Motor Historical Federation) so
our government will let us continue to be on the roads with our oldies.
To supply spare parts is a big and important area for the club. It gets
harder and harder for us to start reproductions on our own as the costs
get too high. When I started to restore my car 23 years ago there
where lots of PVs and Duetts in every car wrecking place around and
my Volvo dealer delivered all new parts I could need. Today the Spare
Parts Men of the club do all they can to help you members with
necessary parts, but we have realised that we have to co-operate with
anyone, both companies, private persons and other clubs to be able
to supply parts at a reasonable price. So don't be sorry if we redirect
you to some other source to obtain what you are looking for. We do
what we can to ascertain good quality on the things we recommend.
Through the years I have had much joy and great benefits from my
membership in the Svenska Volvo PV-klubben. When Rolf Englund
asked me what the main direction would be in my work as a chairman
the answer was natural:
–Benefit for the members.
That will have to be my motto. In all aspects you shall have the feeling
that you have joy and benefit from you membership whether your need
is for tips and advice or nice fellowship. The board and all other
officials do what they can to give you as much as they can from you
membership, but your participation is a prerequisite for the benefits.
Only by coming to a club event or by writing a few lines in the
PV-Entusiasten, a lot of fellow members can enjoy their memberships.
